Our collaboration with the Embassy of India in Paris has been central to ILLE Paris since our early days. Hosting regular reading sessions within the Embassy has allowed us to gather in a space that is both culturally meaningful and deeply aligned with our literary focus.
📍 Event schedule
Every third sunday of the month (RSVP on Mobilizon)
When: 16:20 to 19:00
Where: 13 Rue Alfred Dehodencq, Paris 75016
A key pillar of this collaboration is access to the Embassy’s library. This collection provides participants with the opportunity to read on-site, discover unfamiliar authors, and engage with texts that are not always easy to find in Paris. The library has become a shared resource, one that encourages slow reading, quiet reflection, and informal exchange among readers.
Beyond access, we are actively involved in expanding the Embassy’s library, with a particular emphasis on books written in Indian regional languages. Through curated additions and community-driven recommendations, we aim to strengthen the presence of linguistic traditions that are often underrepresented outside India. These efforts reflect our broader commitment to literary diversity and to making non-English Indian literature visible and approachable.
Together with the Embassy, we hope to continue nurturing a space where books circulate, languages coexist, and readers feel invited to explore India’s literary landscape in all its richness.
Indian embassy is not a public place, and hence, participants interested in attending our events hosted on the embassy premise must comply with its security protocols. Thanks to the aide provided by the embassy staff, we facilitate a through identity verification of our participants while accepting their RSVPs. In order to cooperate with our processes, our participants must provide us with their full name, nationality, current occupation, and a soft-copy of their valid passport.
We are unable to invite the participants who cannot cooperate with these security procedures. Such participants are welcome to check out our events at the Araku Café, where RSVPing does not involve identity verification.
